I began this family genealogy project in 1979. What started out as a simple ninth-grade class project, has turned into an ongoing, lifelong passion.
I remember the excitement I felt as I read through a set of old family records with my paternal Grandmother, Alfreda (Mutch) Taylor. She was
simply helping her grandson with a school assignment; she had no idea that this would lead to a 30-year (off & on) investigation that would
uncover over 400 years of family history. My grandmother was designated as the keeper of her family tree information after the passing of her
mother, Elsie (MacKay) Mutch, who retained many of the original family records and photos.
Over the past 30 years, I have received tidbits of valuable information from various family members including my mother, Lorraine (Powers)
Taylor, my aunt Ann Marie Powers and my uncle, Edward Powers, On various occasions, I have sought the help of local genealogists. The
information they uncovered opened up new branches of the tree that were previously unknown.
I have discovered that many of my ancestors survived very difficult times: wars, starvation, travel across distant oceans, and arrival in new, foreign
- and sometimes hostle - land. Some of our relatives landed at Plymouth on the first ships after the Mayflower and lived in the Pilgrim community.
Some were founders of the early settlements in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Nova Scotia, New Brunswich and PEI. Some sailed to America as
early as 1621, others arrived on steamliners during the great period of European immigration in the late 19th century.
In most cases, I have only names and significant dates: birth, marriage, children, immigration, and death. But on some records, I was able to
undiscover interesting and detailed recorded stories about our ancestors. I have noted these stories in the individual histories.
In the list below, you will find information about the families on this site. Please enjoy the site and check back often as I am constantly updating it.
And, of course, if you have any further information about the Tree, please send it along.
Thanks, Dave.
